Monypeny + Meanstreetz 'The Beating Stutter Of Hope' Tape

$15.00

"The Beating Stutter Of Hope" is the debut album by the duo of Yucca Valley, CA-based guitarist/shahi baaja player Derek Monypeny (Oaxacan, ALTO!, Sir Richard Bishop's Freak of Araby Ensemble) and Los Angeles-based avant-metal drummer/multi-instrumentalist Mike Meanstreetz (Gasp, Sobbing Honey, Pure Shit, Bow+Arrow).

Totally improvised, and recorded in just one afternoon/evening session at Dharma Sound Studios, "The Beating Stutter Of Hope" is a furiously ecstatic sound-slew. Monypeny and Meanstreetz touch down on a surprisingly broad range of emotional/spiritual zones, from scorching alien free-jazz to expansively brooding drone soundscapes. The last track, "Exempt Ancient," finds Monypeny on the 15-string Indian electric banjo known as the shahi baaja, shredding rolling cosmic waves ridden by Meanstreetz's densely blissful explosions.

With "The Beating Stutter Of Hope," Monypeny + Meanstreetz make a major statement in improvised music. There are many guitar/drum improv duos out there...but nobody else sounds like this.
